About our organization
Stay Arts is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that engages, connects and empowers communities in Southeast Los Angeles through the arts, creative exploration and cultural expression. Our mission is to provide space, access and visibility in the arts for local artists, youth and families through community-led exhibitions, workshops and creative experiences.
We operate and manage Stay Gallery, a community art gallery and creative space located in the heart of Downtown Downey. Since 2012, our space has exhibited the works of over 600 local and emerging artists, provided hundreds of diverse workshops, events and performances for the community, and impacted tens of thousands of young people and families through free and low-cost arts programming.
Job description
Stay Arts is seeking experienced After School Arts Enrichment Teachers to provide onsite visual arts instruction to TK–8 students at various Downey Unified School District (DUSD) elementary and middle school sites for the 2022–2023 school year. Arts enrichment teachers would be responsible for developing and facilitating engaging, dynamic and imaginative visual arts curriculum that inspires experiences of joy, connection and self expression in a safe, inclusive after school environment.
We are hiring qualified candidates for this opportunity immediately. Candidates must be ready to begin onsite instruction as early as the week of August 22, 2022.

Responsibilities
Developing and facilitating TK–8th grade visual arts enrichment curriculum for after school settings.
Creating curriculum that inspires, encourages and supports each child’s innate creative potential.
Developing a monthly list of necessary art materials for your curriculum (all materials will be provided by DUSD).
Arriving to all scheduled shifts on time and helping with set up/clean up when applicable.
Maintaining all materials and equipment in a clean and organized manner.
Establishing and maintaining a safe, inclusive and engaging after school environment.
Supporting the social and emotional wellbeing and development of the children you teach.
Managing difficult/sensitive interactions with children with maturity and patience.
Building positive relationships with children, parents, staff, colleagues and administrators.
Maintaining timely communication with the Stay Arts team.
Qualifications
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must be passionate about inspiring youth through the arts and creativity.
At least two (2) years of experience teaching or leading groups of school-age children.
Experience or knowledge of teaching school-age children about visual arts.
Ability to create flexible curriculum that can be adjusted for different age groups.
Experience working within a framework of social justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Experience interacting with diverse communities and the ability to integrate into an existing school community.
Ability to work both collaboratively on a team and independently with minimal supervision.
Positive, enthusiastic, encouraging and compassionate attitude.
Strong self-starting, multi-tasking and organization skills.
Must have reliable means of transportation.
Preferred Qualifications
Not required but preferred:
Bilingual in English and Spanish.
Foundational understanding and modeling of Social Emotional Learning (SEL) competencies.
Experience developing and facilitating process-based art experiences for children.
Experience guiding children through mindfulness-based practices, such as simple breathing and creative visualizations.
Associate degree or higher (or equivalent experience) in arts, education and/or child development.
Working Conditions
This position requires onsite instruction at multiple DUSD elementary and middle schools located in Downey, CA. Although reasonable accommodations will be made for those with disabilities, this position is physically demanding and involves:
Standing for extended periods of time.
Lifting, carrying and moving items.
Reaching, kneeling, squatting.
Seeing, speaking, hearing.
Work Schedule
This is a part-time position. Shifts are from 3pm to 6pm, Tuesday–Friday, in alignment with DUSD’s 2022–2023 school year. Arts enrichment teachers will be scheduled to work 6–12 hours per week, depending on availability. Onsite instruction begins the week of August 22, 2022.
Pay Rate
We offer a competitive $40/hour pay rate.
Requirements

This position requires proof of COVID-19 vaccination. When eligible, booster vaccination is required.

Offers of employment are contingent upon successful clearance of the following:

TB test clearance
Certificates
The following certifications must be obtained within first 30 days of employment:
CPR & First Aid Certification
Mandated Reporter Training (General & School Personnel)
Sexual Harassment Prevention Training (Nonsupervisory)
Licenses
Must have a valid California class C driver's license or the ability to use an alternative reliable method of transportation.
