Call To Artists!

We are now inviting local artists to submit to La Ofrenda, our second annual group exhibition in celebration of Día de los Muertos.

The history

Rooted in indigenous Aztec tradition, Día de los Muertos is a two-day holiday (November 1 & 2) that celebrates death as a natural part of the human experience. Although most strongly identified with Mexico, it is celebrated and beloved throughout all Latin American communities.

This holiday is an opportunity for the living to create an infinite connection with their deceased loved ones. Many families celebrate through personal ofrendas and joyful gatherings, complete with food, music and dance. Día de los Muertos stands as a reminder of life’s mysterious, yet beautiful, journey through love, unity and acceptance.

Eligibility

  • Open to all ages and experience levels. If you are under 18, parent or guardian consent is required.

  • Open to artists from or residing in Los Angeles County. Priority will be given to those based in the Southeast Los Angeles / Gateway Cities Region.

Requirements

  • Artists may submit one artwork for consideration.

  • Your artwork submission must be no larger than 36” x 48”.

  • Your artwork must follow Stay Gallery’s content guidelines and display guidelines.

  • Artworks must be finished at time of submission (no conceptual plans or unfinished works).

  • At this time, we are only accepting visual artworks – paintings, drawings, mixed media, photographs, prints, sculptures and other three-dimensional works. As this exhibition grows, we plan to accept video, music, dance/movement and performance works in the future.

Opening reception

The opening reception for La Ofrenda will take place on Friday, October 29, 2021 from 7–10pm. Please keep in mind that all attendees (including participating artists) for the opening reception will be required to provide proof of full vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test within 48 hours of the event date.
